Ursula K.’s analysis of those who distance themselves from Omelas.

    Question

    Analysis of the work

Write your work as an essay, including an introduction, thesis, main body, and conclusion.

Be sure to present your case for your position. It doesn’t just summarize the plot of the story. What lessons can we learn from Le Guin’s story?

Be sure to incorporate the ideas you learned from the course. The course covered the following topics: You will need to apply what you learned in the course to your work. Finding meaning, illness and suffering, death and transformation, tragedy and fear, religion and spirituality, love and pleasure, addiction, hospitality, technology, art (beauty, taste, creativity), hope.

To argue effectively, be sure to provide sufficient evidence from history to justify your position. Five. Consider alternative interpretations and evaluate why yours is better. The purpose of the following essay is to analyze various themes in author Ursula K.’s philosophical novel, “The Ones Who Walk Away from Omelas.” Le Guin, 1973 (Le Guin, 1973). The depictions in works of fiction are both vivid and ambiguous at the same time. This work presents various types of topics to help you understand social considerations properly. Themes of death, suffering, tragedy, illness, love, and spirituality were vividly illustrated through Le Guin’s work. Explanations of these topics were well received by most readers at the time.

Thesis statement: Happiness and misery in the city of Omelas signify an eternal cycle of suffering and joy among the people.

According to the author of the work, the focus was on the utopian city of Omelas, and all events developed in connection with a missing child. In this book there are mentions of summer festivals, symbolizing the fun and happiness of people’s society. On the contrary, that suffering is reflected in the misery of children, which is the main factor in the prosperity of the city of Omelas (Menadue, 2018). There is mention of a chronology in the story, and it is stated that the story begins with the beginning of a summer festival. The beginning of summer festivals here means joy and bustle after a dry and harsh winter season that brings various diseases. The excessive happiness portrayed in works of fiction does not correspond to the real world, which is full of disease, suffering, and misery. This high level of happiness testifies to the fact that the city of Omelas is a completely fictional utopia and has nothing to do with real life (Le Guin, 1973).

Throughout history, Omelas has been depicted as a city without kings, slaves, military power, corruption, or clergy. This means the actual way the world should be. It represents peace, prosperity and joy. Unfortunately, the socio-economic and political structure of today’s society is nothing like that. Therefore, this contrast is very striking. The residents of this community are happy and enjoy all kinds of pleasures. In fact, with the current social system, people are not allowed to have such beautiful things. Most philosophers and spiritual people say that life is a mixture of joy and sadness, success and failure, bliss and misery (Rea, 2014). No wonder people suffer and die. People should experience unfortunate events, which will teach them life lessons. The author of this work admits that it is not possible to express every detail in detail (Keller Hirsch, 2016).

This fictional work was created entirely by her imagination. The eternal fairy tale theme is a fundamental element of this fiction. Because readers like to take part in these happy and blissful stories because they want to distance themselves from the painful and painful world in which they live. However, the author definitely makes a very strong case against the corrupt and evil society that all people currently live in (Rea, 2014). The suffering of poor children was depicted in the work. The people of the city of Omelas do not think about the suffering that the child has to endure. This is completely a recognition of the fact that people ignore the misfortune and suffering of all people around the world. There are many societies that do not prioritize the suffering of others. This story, “The People Who Walk Away from Omelas,” represents these people (Le Guin, 1973). Author Le Guin believes that educated and civilized people should not avoid these victims. Rather, we must help everyone so that we can work together to help someone when they are suffering.

This level of criticism is very rare in contemporary literature and philosophy, where the writer has a subtle plan to highlight the real world by creating a utopian world (Güranç, 2019). People in society are always expected to be helpful when dealing with children and to understand the importance of social relationships. Children are the future of society and all responsible citizens must take care of them. The incident described in the story “Those Who Walk Away from Omelas” should be avoided at all costs. In this way, this story is a very sharp criticism of issues that deeply concern society and that should be dealt with harshly in the future.

    Conclusion

In conclusion, Le Guin’s story is one of the most beautiful of its kind. This reflects the reality of our current society, as well as the carelessness and ignorance of most people. The eternal bliss and happiness of the common people in this story depicts people who do not find responsibility in society. These people ignore their responsibilities and the negative factors have a huge impact on the entire society.
