What three new skills will you apply after reading the game?
After reading “When I Go Online” by Tao Lin, I gained a better perspective to understand my own and my parents’ online behavior (Lin 2013). Since I reached a considerable age, I have used computers and the Internet for a variety of purposes. From the very beginning, I saw a lot of internet usage in my house. My father and mother used them for their work and personal use. During my childhood, the Internet was used to teach me many different subjects, which helped me to develop my learning better. I resorted to the help of computers, like my parents did, to prepare the reports and analysis needed for their work. We will also use the internet to entertain and relax by watching movies and listening to songs. It is also an important part of communication. Despite this practice, their views and mine became different as I grew older.
During my teenage years, I became aware of social networking sites. When I joined Facebook and Instagram, I realized that my parents were also involved. When they found out I was on social media, they took the time to talk to me about what I should be aware of when doing social media, how I can keep myself safe and system. It made me realize that they are quite knowledgeable about the technology they are using. As I grew older, smartphones and better internet connections were introduced. Now can connect to the world at any time. From the very beginning, my parents and I explored the Internet and social media together. Even so, our views and understanding of these two are different. My parents considered the Internet a necessary crime. A trend is slowly taking over the world and one cannot ignore their use. For them, a social network is a platform that allows them to easily connect with friends and acquaintances. It gives them a platform to look for new opportunities and understand the mindset of the younger generation. For me, the internet is a necessity, something I cannot live without. I did my homework, I learned new things about my courses through the internet, it helped me with my project, it helped me connect with friends who have left in places different for different reasons.
There are also some differences in our approach. My parents are quite cautious about using online shopping sites and social networking links. I wasn’t that careful at first. I have learned through my experience that there are also some negative possibilities of the internet. My parents have warned me about this before. I didn’t give it much importance. When I was faced with credit card fraud on the internet while shopping at an online store, I became more cautious. Another difference that I noticed in the use of the internet and social media between me and my parents was our view of sharing our lives online. I follow the same tradition as my generation and religiously follow internet influencers and recent daily life sharing trends while my parents only share a few special occasion photos. separate.
There are also some minor differences with which we use email. For me, email can be used for both formal and informal purposes. I find it perfectly fine to use them to invite guests because it gives me the opportunity to invite them informally with a graphic invitation card while also saving me time visiting each guest individually. My parents disagreed on this and wanted to do it more directly. While I understand the feeling of being invited in person, my busy schedule right now and the busier schedule I will have in the future will be a pretty big hitch in this regard. People I know also appreciate this practice because they rarely have time to receive guests when it suits them. There may be many other psychological differences related to internet and social media use between me and my parents that can only be understood by future experiments.
The three skills I want to learn after reading “The Writer`s Handbook” are reasoning, persuasion, and critical reasoning. Through critical reasoning, I will be able to make informed decisions and create better understandings based on facts and logic (Cottrell 2017). Developing persuasion skills will allow me to perform better in situations that I will encounter later in my career, such as negotiating with clients and closing deals. My debating skills will allow me to develop a critical understanding of the issues. Good reasoning requires deeper knowledge and that’s what I want to achieve.
