The nursing process helps a nurse to assess a community and helps create a perspective by identifying and observing influences, interactions, stressors, resources, and any barriers to the person, people in question. By seeing how the individual lives this helps the nurse figure out the best approach and plan because everyone has different perspectives and a one fits all approach isn’t the best way to think with community nursing as the approach will not work for everyone. A community assessment should be completed prior to the nursing process and assessment. When completing a community assessment there should be a population of focus, defining the characteristics of a population, a geopolitical place, a specific geographic place which has boundaries such as geographic features, transportation, zip-codes, facilities within a specific area, and phenomenal place, a relational or psychological location should be considered as well (Green, 2018).  

With using the nursing process this is beneficial to creating appropriate interventions for a population or community because knowing the people and how they will reaction, their education level, environment, resources, dynamics, health, etc. will determine how they perceive the information given to them and how well the interventions will make a difference (Green, 2018). For example, if we are intervening in a low poverty and not well-educated community, interventions should fit. Interventions would be when educating not using medical jargon this population may not understand and presenting the population with interventions that they will be able to do and will cost them little to no money or obtaining community resources with will help the population obtain their goal or best outcome. 

Another important aspect to consider with public health nursing is that collaboration is necessary for a public health nurse. This includes collaboration with the community, other professions, organizations, and stakeholder groups. This is important to best promote and protect the health of the population and will ultimately help the population get the best outcome (2016).
